Membership

Our church is both self-governing and self-supporting. We welcome into membership anyone who wishes to make this community his or her church home and who is willing to adhere to both the church's mission and the Principles and Purposes of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). To become a member or to learn more about church membership, please contact our Church Office for more information.

In May, the Membership Committee facilitate "The New UU Program." The program is open to all, but specifically focused on people who have recently begun attending services and want to learn more about Unitarian Universalism and what it means to be a member of the Melrose UU Church. The discussion is followed by a light luncheon.

Later in May, during one of the Sunday Worship Services, a New Members Ceremony takes place. The people who wish to become members of the church are invited to the front of the church where the New Member's Covenant is spoken and each new member signs the membership book.

The New Member's Covenant

New Members: We commit ourselves to the Unitarian Universalist principles and purposes and to the mission of this Church. We promise to give and receive with open hearts and open minds within our spiritual community.

Congregation: We welcome you and promise to support, with open hearts and open minds, your spiritual journey among us.

New Members: We accept both the rights and responsibilities of membership at Melrose Unitarian Universalist Church.

Minister: May these promises be blest. May the gifts of spiritual community fulfill our hopes and visions. May the Spirit of Life inspire our life together. Amen.
