The Men’s Group of the Church meets to plan activities for the year, such as the Men’s Retreat, game nights, and the annual Yankee Swap Christmas Party.
The picture below is of the 2015 Men’s Annual Potluck and Yankee Swap. A great time was had by all!
Men’s Annual Retreat
Each year the men of the Church are invited to attend a weekend retreat in early Spring. A team is assembled to select activities to work on during the retreat.
The guys head to Senexet House, Woodstock, Connecticut for a great weekend of fellowship, relaxation, conversation, food, games, and music. And upon departing, we enjoy our “re-entrance wafers,” also known as fresh, warm, home-made cookies!
2018 Annual MUUC Men’s Retreat was April 6th to April 8
The guys went for a weekend to Senexet House, which is situated in the northeast corner of CT. This 1886 Victorian features a fireplaced living room with an adjoining library, chapel, a large bright dining room, a screened porch with views to Roseland Lake and 11 bedrooms containing two to 5 beds each with shared toilet and bath facilities. Set on 11 acres of pine forest and fields this facility offers a tranquil and inspirational setting for our activities. The food is excellent with vegetarian alternatives available. The buildings used for the Men’s Retreat are all wheelchair accessible.
How About Next Year?
Any man associated in any way with the Melrose UU church can attend the Men’s Retreat. Church membership is not required.
Registration starts about 6 weeks before the retreat. The men typically go on the retreat the first week of April. Keep on the lookout for emails from the Congregation and Community email lists, from the church, starting late February/early March.
In 2018, the cost was $220 which covered lodging, meals & gratuity. They typically car-pool down (car-poolers can determine how to split that cost) on the afternoon or evening Friday and return Sunday afternoon, after a fabulous lunch with world famous “re-entry wafers”. A $110 deposit (non-refundable) when registering reserves a spot for you, and the balance is due to the organizing committee about a month before the retreat. (you can also pay the full amount when you register).
NOTE – We believe any man who wants to come should be able to, regardless of circumstances. Discrete & confidential scholarship assistance is available. Please reach out to our Minister for this.
The organizing committee will start up again next year, and contacts will be identified late February. See you in 2019! Or you can ask any guy at church – just take a look at the photos and seek one of us out at Coffee Hour! We’ll be glad to help!
