The Melrose UU Church has 3 weekly drop-in activities and ALL ARE WELCOME! You don’t have to be an MUUC member to participate, and all are FREE and open to the public. These activities will provide you with opportunities to be creative, give to others, make connections, center yourself, and emerge refreshed. Please, join us!
All of these activities are accessible by entering through the basement door, which is located at the bottom of the ramp that starts at the sidewalk from West Emerson Street, on the right-side of the building (not the parking-lot ramp).
Cancelled activities: past attendees will be notified via email; we will try our best to keep the website updated regarding last-minute cancellations. In the event of city-wide snow emergency (meaning no on-street parking), all church activities are cancelled.
Newly-created is a drumming group that meets Thursday evenings from 7:30 – 8:30 pm in the Youth Room. Men, women, and teens are invited to join. You do not have to bring your own drum because there are several percussion instruments to share. This is a drop-in group so you can come when you can and not worry about missing a session.
This is being led by MUUC member Kathy K., who attended a week-long drumming workshop with Matt Meyers, and discovered a new passion. Over the course of the week, that group of drummers developed the ability to begin a group rhythm and sustain it on their own. While Kathy will facilitate the group, she encourages participants to develop and use their ability to facilitate the circle too. Kathy has long performed early music, playing recorder and viola da gamba in various groups, always with printed music in front of her. Part of her excitement in drumming is in making music by listening and responding to and initiating rhythms in the freedom from the printed page. She loves being inside the sound and being a part of its creation, and believes you will as well.
MUUC has a weekly drop-in Meditation Group. The hour-long sessions will include 30 to 45 minutes of sitting and/or walking meditation, followed by 15 minutes of spiritual realization discussion.
This group is led by MUUC members Josh S. and Terry S. who have had meditative practices for years. No meditation experience is necessary. Chairs and cushions from couches will be provided, but feel free to bring your own cushion or zafu if you prefer.

Friday mornings at 9:00 am, a dedicated group of fabric artists gather to create beautiful, hand-made quilts that are donated to babies and children in emergency rooms and hospitals, and families shelters. In the past, they also donated to a veterans hospital. No prior knowledge of quilting is needed – they’re very happy to teach. Below is the 2017 Harvest Fair quilt that was raffled off.
