A week ago Sunday, two members of our team took our sponsored refugee family for a hike in Breakheart Reservation (pictured). The children had a wonderful time. They played on the equipment, they walked; they ran; they slid on the ice. We even met up with some pet goats that were out for a stroll with their owners! It was a joyful afternoon.

All that was forgotten when a potential 3 bedroom apartment fell through in Melrose, a terrible disappointment for this weary, traumatized family. Fortunately an incredibly compassionate member of our cluster agreed to take them in for up to two months starting March first. We continue the search with the help of two big-hearted realtors at Brad Hutchinson Real Estate who are as smitten by the family as we are.

We need help driving Mom to various local food pantries. Please contact Nancy F. who has a list of pantries and hours of operation. nefree@verizon.net, 781-420-3282

And now for something new! Each week we hope to share with you the story of an Immigrant Entrepreneur from the Immigrant Learning Center’s (“ILC”) Website. As we learn more about the work of this Malden-based organization we will inform you of how we can participate in their mission.

We invite you to read the story of Rafael Alvarez, a Mexican immigrant who founded Genesys Works, a nonprofit that aims to transform the lives of under-privileged high school students. Click here for Rafael’s story.
