Immigration Ministry Update, September 2020

It’s been an unusual but productive summer for our asylum seeking clients! The mother of our family of five is back at work (but only part-time) at the YMCA Daycare Center. She is looking for an additional part time job or a full time job with benefits. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our MUUC Community, her two youngest girls attended summer camp at the Y in Saugus. Of the fourteen people who donated tuition for the girls, eight were from our church. The IM team is so grateful for and proud of the support we receive.

The oldest son is working at T’ahpas 529 Restaurant part time and will be a senior in high school this year while her middle son is once again living with her and the girls. After their lease was up in Malden, they moved back into a four bedroom apartment in Melrose with one additional adult roommate. This means the children will remain enrolled in Melrose schools! With much hard work, they continue to progress.

Our client from Cameroon still struggles emotionally but is able to remain in her studio apartment through January thanks to a member of our community. She has received her working papers and is looking for employment while fine tuning her resume.
