From the Indigenous Peoples who mined green stone in Melrose, to the enslaved people held by Thomas Lynde, to a racial terror fire-bombing in the 1950s, local historian James Bennett has been working to gather stories across the long history of people of color in Melrose. To honor Black History Month, Bennett published an amazing series, both in the Melrose Weekly News and on Facebook, which includes both positive and negative mentions of the Unitarian church. Rev. Susanne is working with James Bennett and our Anti-Racism Team to further uncover and grapple with this history. If you missed this important series, start with this summary article and work back through the month.
