A Questioning Community

Sunday October 4, 10:30am

We as Unitarian Universalist live a life that invites in questioning. We wonder and ask ourselves: why are things the way they are? In that we create rituals, practice loving one another in community, and ask even more questions. Join this Sunday as we explore the ways through questions we’ve queered rituals (such as communion) to meet the needs of our community.

Service led by Rhea Brown-Bright, MUUC’s Director of Lifespan Religious Education and Ministerial Intern.

As a Beloved Community,

We promise to celebrate, care for, and challenge one another.

Together, we covenant to build hope and to show love for each other

and the greater world through our words, actions, and outreach.

OPENING HYMN   “Sing Out Praises for the Journey” Singing the Living Tradition #295

Sing out praises for the journey, pilgrims, we, who carry on,

searchers in the soul’s deep yearnings, like our forebears in their time.

We seek out the spirit’s wholeness in the endless human quest.

Look inside, your soul’s the kindling of the hearth fire pilgrims knew.

Find the spirit, always restless, find it in each mind and heart.

Touch and hold that ancient yearning, kindling for a newfound truth.

Stand we now upon the threshold, facing futures yet unknown.

Hearth behind us, wayside hostel built by those who knew wild roads.

Guard we e’er their sacred embers carried in our minds and hearts.

CENTERING SONG   “Where Do We Come From?” Singing the Journey #1003

Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?

Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?

Mystery. Mystery. Life is a riddle and a mystery.

Mystery. Mystery. Life is a riddle and a mystery.

Where do we come from? Where are we going?

Where do we come from? Where are we going?

Sing two times.

CLOSING HYMN      “We’ll Be Known By Our Love”  by Katie Grigg-Miller

When the winds around you blow, take my hand.

When the raging waters flow, I’ll help you to land.

And we’ll go together into the great unknown.

Shelter for each other, compassion as our home.

And we’ll be known by our love.

We’ll be known by our love.

When you’re fearful, when you’re blue, don’t despair.

When the world gives up on you, I’ll be there,

And we’ll go together into the great unknown.

Shelter for each other, compassion as our home.

And we’ll be known by our love.

We’ll be known by our love.

We’ll be known by our love.

We’ll be known by our love.

CHALICE EXTINGUISHING                                                    Rhea Brown-Bright

We extinguish the flame, but not the light of truth,

the warmth of community, or the fire of commitment

These we carry in our hearts until we are together again.
