RE Parent Notes

Exploring Diversity: On the Path to Understanding

The RE programming this year will include Coming of Age for senior youth, OWL for 7-9 graders, Spirit Play, and activities on the Diversity Topics.

Church school will have a different feel this year. There will still be a Spirit Play classroom for the Preschool-1st grade. This room will be led by Kathy K. and her team of Spirit Play teachers. Spirit Play will focus on our church-wide diversity initiative.

For more information about Spirit Play for grades Pre-K to 1, please click HERE.

From 2nd grade through Middle School, the children will assemble in the Supper Room and hear the choices for that Sunday. The activities will relate to the Diversity Topic that the whole church is discussing (see more about the Diversity initiative by visiting our page “Exploring Diversity: On the Path to Understanding). There will also be an option for a play (looking for the Jr/Sr youth to assist and join in) during the topic that will be staged at the end of the topic. Two other options related to the Diversity Topic will be available for the children each Sunday. Children will choose the group they want to join each Sunday.

OWL (Our Whole Lives) continues to be an engaging program for 7th and 8th graders. In this program, human sexuality is discussed fully and honestly and from a spiritual perspective. This is offered every-other year, and will take place this 2017-2018 church school year.

The Senior Youth, Junior Youth, and Elementary children have a variety of activities and classes that you can volunteer for. It is suggested that newcomers wait a year before volunteering, to allow the parents opportunities to connect with other MUUC adults and feel at home here, before becoming involved in the R.E. program. It also allows your children to develop friendships of their own!
