Last week the latest edition of UU World, our denominational magazine, landed in mailboxes across the country. One of the articles, “After L, G, and B,” caused harm to many of our trans and nonbinary UU siblings. A group called Transgender Religious Professional Unitarian Universalists Together (TRUUsT) responded with a call to action, “Putting the T First.” For further context please check out the report TRUUsT released in January detailing the experiences of Trans Unitarian Universalists.
Trans UUs Respond to UU World Article
Our denomination is not perfect, but I see it as a faith that has the potential to be a space where people can bring their whole selves and find the connection and belonging that is all too often sorely lacking in this world. The report from TRUUsT illustrates that we are not yet living up to that potential and the UU World article provides a very public example of us falling short.
I know that I still have a lot to learn and plenty of room to grow. Right now, the staff and I are wondering what steps MUUC can take to provide a more welcoming community. If you’re wondering this too let’s talk and get started.
