Due to Coronavirus concerns, all of our Worship Services will be online until further notice. Please see our Worship Service page for more information on how you can join us online.
We welcome visitors and would be happy to meet with you and answer any questions you might have.
How will I get to know people? How will they get to know me?
We’d love to learn more about you and what your interests are. Every Sunday Worship Service is followed by ‘Coffee Hour’ in our Parish Hall, right next to the Sanctuary. Please make a name-tag and join in by having a cup of coffee or tea. We also have an opportunity for quiet discussion shortly after service, in our Parlor, where visitors can meet Rev. Susanne and a member or two of Church Leadership. Together, we will go through the process of getting to know each other.
How will I know where everything is?
We wish to make everyone feel right at home, and are happy to give tours of our church home. Please speak to one of the Ushers, the Minister, or the Lay Leader, and let them know you’d like a tour. Or, call our office and ask for a tour to be arranged ahead of time, if you’d like.
Tell me about the minister and staff at MUUC…
How do I get to MUUC?
We are located at 70 West Emerson Street in Melrose (westerly off Main Street). We are known as “the church across from from the Melrose Public Library”.
How should I stay informed about what’s going on at MUUC?
In addition to our MUUC Website, we have our official “Melrose Unitarian Universalist Church” Facebook page, and our Midweek Update email (signup). Or, you can sign the Guest Book in the church entrance, include your email address and indicate with a check mark that you would like to receive these midweek emails.
What do people wear to church?
Dress is casual. Jeans and a casual shirt are fine. Some people dress more formally, so you can too, if you want. Kids should wear something they can play in.
What about Religious Education for my kids?
We encourage you to contact our Director of Religious Education, Katie Camire, to discuss our Church School (email [email protected], and be sure to include your email contact information). Church School is offered Sept-June, and is divided into age-appropriate classes. The children follow a curricula guided by the UU Soul Matters monthly themes.

There are Activity Materials available in the Sanctuary that can keep small hands busy during Worship.

The Nursery is fully supplied, staffed, and ready for toddlers, babies and parents.

The High School youth group meets every-other Sunday afternoon at 12:00.
What else should I know about MUUC?
Impact to the Wider Community:
Every Sunday, an offering is collected during the service. The church donates half of the coins and bills to non-profit organizations that are doing good work in our community and whose works are in keeping with our UU principles. Please see the Giving Beyond Our Walls page for more information about this wonderful program. Since its inception over a decade ago, MUUC has contributed thousands of dollars to many worthwhile local organizations.
Social-Fun and Social-Justice:
We also have very active Hunger Ministries, which addresses hunger from many different angles, including donating to local Food Pantries, and serving meals through Bread of Life in Malden. We have an active commitment to Social Justice, and we are a both UUA-certified Green Sanctuary and a Welcoming Congregation.
We have many activities throughout the year, including informal pot-lucks, environmental films open to the public, marches or vigils in Melrose and in Boston supporting social justice issues, game and trivia nights, serving community dinners, meditation, quilting, talent shows, annual retreats, and religious programming for adults and children. Check out our Past Events to see what we’ve been up to.
Please look through our website, and feel free to ask an MUUC member (look for our name-tags!) any questions which will help your first days with us be welcoming.
We are so glad you’re here!
